The 19-year-old playmaker has been catching the headlines after excellent displays for the Bundesliga club and Germany, but despite this the former Manchester United man does not know who he is.
"Who's Gotze? In what position does he play? Is he good? I have little opportunity to see Bundesliga games," the 26-year-old told Bild.
The claims will frustrate and annoy German football fans, and add to the Portugal international's reputation for arrogance, but this is not something that concerns him.
"I'm not interested in what people say about me. I am always in top form; I work hard on myself. That's why nobody makes an attack on my sporting abilities," he concluded.
Ronaldo is set to make his first Champions League appearance of the season against Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday, and has already scored four goals in his first two La Liga games of the campaign.
Gotze, meanwhile, featured in Dortmund's 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Tuesday night, and continues to catch the eye of scouts, fans and fellow players with his impressive performances.
