Barcelona goal hero Victor Vazquez accepted the acclaim of coach Pep Guardiola after his performance in the 2-0 win over Rubin Kazan in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
The young midfielder finished with composure in the closing stages to see Barcelona over the line against the Russian side and help them round off the group stages with a well-earned win.
Speaking to journalists after the match, Vazquez confessed: “Guardiola spoke to me after the final whistle, and told me to continue working hard, and that I deserved the match because of the injury I have had.
“I am very happy to have played with the team and to have won. I enjoyed playing with [Gerard] Pique a lot, and with Lionel Messi as well, although he came on later. I was dreaming about playing well, and I am glad to have done so.”
Team-mate Marc Bartra made his European debut in the match, and the 19-year-old added: “I am thrilled to make my mark on the first team, I’ve been at the club 10 years, and the tactics have always been the same.
“To play for the best team in the world in Europe’s top competition is amazing.”
