Brazilian hails Spurs' use of home advantage
The European champions were beaten 3-1 in a game that saw Welshman Bale set up two goals and provide a constant threat throughout.
Maicon suffered a particularly torrid time in trying to defend against the Tottenham winger, with the home crowd chanting ‘Taxi for Maicon’ midway through the second half.
However, the Brazilian said the performance of the 21-year-old was “not a surprise” to him.
"Anyone who knows English football knows who Bale is," Maicon told Football Italia.
"He put in a great performance. All of Tottenham did and with the third goal they sealed it."
Maicon also believes that the home crowd at White Hart Lane last night was instrumental in Tottenham’s victory.
"We gave it a go, but Tottenham were also good at making the most of the home advantage," he added.
The 29-year-old revealed that Inter have now set their sights on getting their Group A qualifying campaign back on track in their next match against FC Twente.
"Now we have to immediately look ahead to the next match," he said.
"We must beat Twente and are working towards that."
