Lionel Messi's quick recovery from an ankle injury picked up against Atletico Madrid continues to suprise everyone, as the Argentine hero looks likely to take a spot on the bench for Barcelona's away fixture with Rubin Kazan in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Sport.es have reported that Messi will not make the starting XI in Russia but will be ready to take part if required at some point in the game.

The little wizard is however optimistic of returning to the starting line-up for the Spanish cup against Mallorca next weekend.

Messi has also been called up by Argentina coach Sergio Batista when the side takes on Japan in an October friendly.
