Italy Boss Marcello Lippi Congratulates Inter On Champions League Win

The torch is passed on to the Azzurri…

Italy head coach Marcello Lippi has paid tribute to his former club Inter after the Nerazzurri were crowned European champions last night.

Inter defeated German side Bayern Munich 2-0 in Madrid to win the Champions League, their first triumph in Europe’s top club competition since 1965.

“It was a tremendous victory, born from consistency and self confidence,” Lippi told the ANSA news agency. “Now it’s Italy’s turn…”

The 28-man Azzurri squad have convened at the Palace of Venaria, near Turin, and will relocate to their camp in Sestriere later today to start training ahead of this summer’s World Cup finals in South Africa where they will look to retain the crown they won four years ago in Germany.
