Rio Ferdinand Reveals Kevin Davies & John Hartson As Toughest Opponents

No mention of Fernando Torres or Craig Bellamy?

Rio Ferdinand, Manchester United

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has revealed which forwards he has found difficult to mark – and his answers might surprise a few people.

"Raul [of Real Madrid] in the Champions League is one of the hardest I have to play against," Ferdinand told the Manchester Evening News.

"He doesn't play against you, he plays away from you. He asks you to come and mark him or let him hurt you with his passing."

Ferdinand admitted he also struggled to contain John Hartson – who he played alongside at West Ham United – and Kevin Davies, both very physical strikers.

"In training, John Hartson was ridiculous. You'd train with him and get eight studs in your ear. On a Friday, he'd attack you from all angles.

"Kevin Davies is difficult to play against – very physical. But there's not one player in particular who sticks out."

On his club's ambitions this season, Ferdinand added: "To win the Premier League would be fantastic. It would be a great achievement, especially after all the changes in the summer. Anything after that would be a bonus."
