Rubin Kazan Coach Kurban Berdyev: We Lost Two Points Against Inter

After watching his side play a strong game against the Italian champions, the Russians' coach was left ruing a missed opportunity...

Russian champions Rubin Kazan dominated play against Inter in their Champions League match on Tuesday night but could only pick up a 1-1 draw. Head coach Kurban Berdyev was far from happy with the point.

"Ahead of the game, we were aware that a draw would do nothing for our chances of progressing to the knock-out stage. That is why we were winding the players up for a victory," Berdyev told Sport Express.

"We did not play to hold on to the draw. We changed our style of play a bit after the opener, but we still kept on playing aggressively. We never stopped going forward as we wanted to score a second goal.

"We have seen Inter play on several occasions and warned our defenders about what they can do up front. In general, I am quite satisfied with the performance of our defence.

"However, they allowed [Dejan] Stankovic way too much space in the penalty area. We warned the players about such attacks from Inter, but we were not paying attention for a second.

"I am glad that we stayed in control, even after conceding the equaliser. Nevertheless, we failed to pick up the full three points, although we had an extra man on the pitch.

"Our finishing was simply not good enough. [Aleksandr] Ryazantsev, [Sergei] Semak and [Aleksandr] Bukharov could, and should, have scored. I am a bit disappointed that we failed to score a second goal."
