Latino Athlete Of The Year Lionel Messi Hopes To Repeat Barcelona Success

‘El Mesias’ has picked up another individual award, but he is hoping to replicate the treble triumph from last term.

Barcelona wizard Lionel Messi was awarded the ESPN Deportes Latino Athlete of the Year last night in Los Angeles. Though the 22-year-old was delighted to have bagged another individual accolade, he has his sights set another clean sweep with the Blaugrana.

“This honour is fantastic, as all awards are important and special,” Marca quoted him telling reporters during the gala.

“But I hope to repeat the season that we just had, although it will be very difficult to replicate our accomplishment last campaign.”

Despite the Tinseltown atmosphere, Messi admitted that he did not feel uncomfortable at all by the glamour of Hollywood surrounding him, as he also went on to talk about the chaotic climate in football’s transfer market.

“The attention here does not bother me. I am just as calm here as I would be at Barcelona or in Argentina. At the moment, I am happy and I’m just enjoying my time with my family,” he assured.

“As for the transfer market, it is not my concern. I have nothing to say about it.”

Messi will continue to spend the last days of his summer vacation in LA before heading back to Catalunya to begin pre-season training with Barcelona.
