Roma striker Francesco Totti contemplated the possibility of retiring from football following the furore over his red card in the Coppa Italia final against Inter, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper.
Totti was given his marching orders after a vicious kick at Inter forward Mario Balotelli, who later claimed the Giallorossi captain had racially abused him.
The incident has earned Totti public condemnation in Italy and the 33-year-old reportedly considered calling it quits despite having recently penned an extension with his hometown club until 2014.
But he eventually shelved this thought and will lead his team out against Cagliari at the Olimpico this afternoon whilst the fans will wear No. 10 shirts in a show of solidarity with their idol.
