Former Brazil Coach Carlos Dunga: Fiorentina Have The New Cafu In Romulo

The former Brazil captain has compared Romulo to his former team-mate Cafu, but has denied comparisons with Inter right-back Maicon
Former Brazil coach Carlos Dunga has compared Fiorentina new signing Romulo to legendary right-back, Cafu.

The Italian side confirmed that they had signed Romulo on Tuesday from Cruzeiro for a fee believed to be around €2.5 million.

The marauding full-back has earned rave reviews of late and has been tipped to earn a call-up to the Brazilian national side.

One of Romulo's admirers is Dunga, who coached the national team between 2006 and 2010.

"He can reach the by-line with remarkable ease. Romulo has tactical intelligence and above all, incredible precision in sending crosses to the middle of the box," Dunga told Corriere dello Sport.

The 42-year-old was then keen to talk about how Romulo compares with other Brazilian right-backs, including former Roma player Cafu.

"In Brazil, many say he reminds them of Douglas Maicon and Cafu, but in my view the similarity is only really with Cafu.

"Maicon is a different player, whereas Romulo has the same speed and change of pace as the former Roma right-back [Cafu]."

Romulo's switch to Serie A cuts short the player's loan move to Atletico Paranaense which was due to run until the end of the year.
