Montella lamented the fact that his side were not rewarded for their play in the stalemate, but admitted that over the season, Milan’s consistency made them worthy champions.
“From the beginning, we tried to do well in the match,” said Montella in his post-match interview.
“We gave Milan the possession of the ball, trying to hit them on the counter. But then we went around to break the deadlock, particularly in the first half, and it was a pity that we were not rewarded."
“What struck me most about AC Milan this season is their consistency. They also have very strong players, and even today they have shown that they deserved to win the Scudetto.”
Montella also called for Roma to display similar levels of commitment in their remaining games in order to clinch fourth place, and entry into the qualifying rounds of the Champions League.
"Obviously the teams we're going to face will not have the quality and strength of Milan. But I expect the same conviction shown this evening in the last games. It’s what we have to do to get the best results,” said Montella.
Roma visit Catania next weekend, but will first try to overturn a 1-0 deficit against Inter in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final this Wednesday.
