The veteran central defender, who was once on the verge of retirement, celebrated his second Scudetto with the club in his nine years at the San SiroAC Milan defender Alessandro Nesta believes that his side deserve to be crowned as Serie A champions for the first time since 2004. Nesta was speaking to Sky Sport Italia in the aftermath of the 0-0 draw with Roma, which put them beyond the reach of rivals Inter.
"We were top of the table for the whole campaign so it was only natural that we would be there at the end too. We have an eight-point advantage and the Scudetto is richly deserved."
Nesta felt that his centre-back partner Thiago Silva and Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic were key figures as Milan brushed the likes of Inter and Napoli aside:
"I dedicate this title to my family. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva were decisive."
Club captain Massimo Ambrosini, who is celebrating his first title as skipper after succeeding the now retired Paolo Maldini, echoed the sentiments of Nesta when he told the same television station.
"The Scudetto is absolutely deserved."
