thumbnail Hello,

The Catalan club's vice-president insists that they currently have no need for the Portuguese ace given that they already have "the best player in the world" in Lionel Messi

Barcelona vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu insists that the club would never consider a move for Cristiano Ronaldo because there is no room for the Real Madrid ace at the Camp Nou.

The Portuguese winger is widely regarded as the only credible rival to Lionel Messi’s status as the world's current best player, leading some to salivate at the thought of the duo being paired together up front.

However, Bartomeu does not believe that Barca boss Pep Guardiola would be able to accommodate Ronaldo in his already-stellar line-up.

"We would not bring him [here],” the executive told Catalunya Radio.

“He is a very good footballer, a big star, but there is currently no place for him in this team.

“We [already] have the best player in the world - it's Leo Messi and he is irreplaceable.”

Meanwhile, Bortomeu does not believe that Gerard Pique has a case to answer over his booking against Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday night.

The Spain defender picked up a yellow card for time-wasting during the closing stages of the 4-0 win at the Camp Nou and, as it was his fifth caution of the season, Pique will now miss this weekend’s meeting with Levante.

There have been claims, though, that the former Manchester United centre-half got himself booked deliberately to avoid running the risk of missing next Saturday week’s clash with La Liga leaders Madrid and the player is now in danger of being handed a two-match ban.

Pique is expected to learn his fate on Friday but Bortomeu is adamant that the player is not guilty of anything untoward.

"We were winning and he was trying to waste time,” he said. “I'm sorry that he cannot play this Saturday against Levante, which is a very important game."

According to reports in Spain, Pique will be cleared of any wrongdoing, thus freeing him to return to La Liga action against his side's great rivals at the Santiago Bernabeu on December 10.

Barca currently sit second in the standings, three points behind Madrid and having played one game more.
