Real Madrid's Jose Mourinho Hails Mesut Ozil's Blend Of German & Turkish Virtues
The Portuguese tactician feels that the playmaker has everything it takes to become a true great because of his mixed background
By Stefan Coerts
The 22-year-old midfielder was born and raised in Gelsenkirchen but is of Turkish descent, and Mourinho feels that Ozil displays the best of both worlds in his playing style.
"On the one hand Mesut has a very German mentality with regard to his discipline, his respect, his will to learn and the way in which he and the other players work together," Mourinho was quoted as saying by Sport Bild.
"He has, however, from the Turkish part of his mentality, a bit of creativity, dynamism and technique.
"He's incredibly talented. He is mentally up to par, he's smart, and he wants to deliver good performances. Maybe we need to wait a little to see exactly how he develops and what direction he is taking."
Ozil joined Real Madrid from Werder Bremen in the summer of 2010 and has since developed into a key player at Santiago Bernabeu.
