Real Madrid's injured forward Gonzalo Higuain has passed initial tests at the Northwestern Memorial hospital in Chicago and is ready to be operated on today.
The Argentine striker met with doctor Richard Fessler, a specialist at non-invasive back surgery who is used to such injuries in players in the NFL in America, for the pre-operative examinations and took time out to thank his team-mates for the support shown to him before Real Madrid's match with Villarreal.
Los Blancos took to the field wearing shirts with words of encouragement to 'Pipita'.
"I was really moved," the 23-year-old striker told Marca. "I hope to be back with them soon and ready to play."
Higuain reportedly watched the game on television in the States and was overjoyed with the team's comeback to win 4-2.
