Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has claimed that Barcelona star Lionel Messi is a more complete player than his Real Madrid counterpart Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Spanish international shot-stopper gave his opinion on the Clasico encounter, which takes place a week from today.
Reina is anticipating a tremendous clash of La Liga's top two sides, and when asked the question of who he feels is superior between Messi and Ronaldo, he gave the Argentine his backing.
“Barcelona are slight favourites because they are playing at home, and I feel that there will be lots of goals. For me, with the Blaugrana playing in front of 100,000 fans, they hold the edge, but it is a match that is very difficult to predict," the former Villarreal glovesman told Marca.
“Messi and Ronaldo are both great players, but for my taste Messi is more complete. However, that is my modest and private opinion.”
Reina also spoke of Jose Mourinho, who will guide los Blancos into his first El Clasico meeting, and feels that it's no coincidence how highly the Portuguese is revered by his players and staff.
“He is a great coach who has made some very good results and many titles. In all the sides he has been involved with, he has always had players who have said many good things about him.”
Finally, he stated that he would love to see one of his Furia Roja colleagues be awarded the Ballon d'Or crown.
“I would like to see my friend Iker Casillas win, but I think that Xavi and Andres Iniesta have the best chance.”
