Atletico Madrid coach Quique Sanchez Flores has explained the recent omission of Argentinian starlet Eduardo Salvio from his squad, admitting he is worried about overwhelming the youngster.

Flores explained that Atletico were a big club for any youngster to join and he was worried about putting too much pressure on the 19-year-old forward.

“He’s only a boy and he’s had to deal with a lot with the enormity of a club like Atletico Madrid,” he told Marca. “We do not want to overwhelm him.”

Salvio arrived at Atleti for a fee of around €10 million in January with a massive reputation and has made just two league appearances for the club so far.

With La Liga rapidly racing towards the finish line, a Copa del Rey final and Europa League matches on the way, it will be a busy few months for Atleti.

With some players admitting they are already feeling the strain of the gruelling fixture list, it looks likely that the former Lanus man will see some more time on the field before the end of the current campaign.
