Real Madrid Should Have Scored More Against Racing Santander - Esteban Granero

Three points were vital, but the playmaker would have liked more goals...

Esteban Granero believes that Real Madrid should have beaten Racing Santander more convincingly, but was pleased with his contribution playing in a new position.

The 22-year-old helped Los Merengues go back to the top of the table ahead of el Clasico next weekend as Gonzalo Higuain netted the only goal of the game after 21 minutes.

While the flair that is being demanded was only evident in spells, Madrid dominated and Granero felt that they could have won by more.

"The scoreline was close," he was quoted as saying by the club's official website. "We had several clear chances on goal but could just not capitalise on them.

"We were focussed throughout and it was important to win, eventhough we would have liked to have scored more. I felt we deserved that.

"The three points were very important and now we have some vital games coming up.

Granero was employed on the right of the midfield sand enjoyed experiencing a different position from where he could help create forward momentum.

"I felt great on the pitch. I played in a new position because I had to do a bit of everything in midfield," he added.
