Barcelona Are The Best Side In Recent History - Santiago Solari

The Argentine hopes that Real Madrid will enjoy the same success as they did during his stint with los Blancos. He thinks that Pellegrini has his work cut out, though...

Experienced midfielder Santiago Solari has lauded Barcelona, telling Sport that they are "the best side in recent times".

"I see them as the best, without a doubt - it's not a subjective thing. They won the treble while playing some spectacular football, and [Lionel] Messi will certainly win the Ballon d'Or," he added.

The 33-year-old also believes that Real Madrid have "another gear", and hopes that they can repeat the "wonderful times" of Florentino Perez's first era.

"The players came together and we had a base on which they were incorporated, year after year, first [Luis] Figo, then [Zinedine] Zidane, then Ronaldo.

"[Manuel] Pellegrini has a big task ahead of him in order to accommodate these big names and get them to work well soon."

Solari's current side, Atlante, will meet Barcelona in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup if they beat Auckland City or Al-Ahli in the quarter-finals.
