Manolo Jimenez Praises Sevilla After Xerez Win
The Andalusians expressed their title credentials once more...
Goals from Alvaro Negredo and Luis Fabiano eventually ensured a 2-0 win, but the visitors did not have things all their own way. Speaking to Marca after the game, Jimenez said, "Xerez countered our ability and dealt with us."
"We had to play against our natural style. Xerez would win most games by playing like this.
"They stopped us in midfield, and did not allow us to take advantage on the wings. We did not show our technical and tactical superiority.
"Therefore, the footballers' individual qualities began to appear."
Jimenez then expressed his satisfaction at Barcelona's slip-up against Osasuna, continuing, "We said after winning at the Reyno de Navarra, that not many others would win there."
"It is important to compare, because we got three points there, and Barca just one.I want to emphasize how tremendously difficult it is to play these games two, three days before a Champions League match."
"How do you explain to the team that these three points are vital, when they know that a win against Stuttgart would practically guarantee our progress in the Champions League?
"It is slightly easier for the teams not in the Champions League, so we must take advantage of the slip-ups of Barcelona and Real Madrid."
Finally, Jimenez elaborated on his relationship with Luis Fabiano, stating, "Whenever he goes to Brazil, we speak two or three times."
"He is a very positive and intelligent communicator. He is focussed on succeeding with Sevilla and Brazil.
"While I am on the bench, there will not be any problems with him."
