Real Madrid Must Remain Patient - Ivan Zamorano
The Chilean legend believes that forging a free-flowing team immediately was never on the cards, but he has backed countryman Manuel Pellegrini to deliver over the course of the season...
Ivan Zamorano believes that Real Madrid must remain patient if they want to see their new look squad become a fully fledged team capable of playing attractive football.
The former Chile international spent four years at the Spanish club - between 1992 and 1996 - and was back in the city to visit the club's training facilities.
Critics have been aggravated by Madrid's inability to produce the flowing football that the expensive summer signings were expected to bring, but Zamorano thinks they will.
“[Karim] Benzema, [Gonzalo] Higuain, [Cristiano] Ronaldo… they are great players," he mused to the club's official website. "Many people want Raul to retire and he always ends up being the best on the team. This is a good squad. Fans must be patient.
"Hopefully they play more consistently to reach the end of the year in good form. I don't only think they will win, they will do so by playing well.”
Zamorano also admitted that he is proud that compatriot Manuel Pellegrini had been handed the coaching job in the summer.
“As a Chilean, I am proud that Pellegrini is coaching Real Madrid. He earned it. I know he will have some tough moments, but he will carry Real Madrid far," he continued.
"Injuries have really plagued him and he hasn't been able to put together an 11-man roster that plays on a consistent basis.”
