Pepe: Injuries No Excuse For Real Madrid Display
Los Merengues did not draw at the weekend because of players who were unavailable, according to the Portugal defender. He has tried to look at the positive side of their weekend tie...
Pepe does not think that Real Madrid can use their injury list as a reason why they were unable to beat Sporting de Gijon on Saturday evening in El Molinon.
The Portugal international feels that Los Merengues have a strong enough squad to cope with absentees and refuted talk that if the sidelined stars had played they would have won.
Cristiano Ronaldo is one player who critics say Madrid rely on, but Pepe is unhappy with that idea and believes that only bad luck in front of goal denied his team.
"Every player in the squad is capable of playing for Real Madrid," he was quoted as saying by AS.
"There's no need to talk about the absences, we need to talk about those of us who are here.
"We worked hard, we all fought for the victory, but we lacked precision in front of goal.
"Our objective was to win and pick up the three points, but we've taken a point from a very tough place to play at. Sporting are a very well-organised team."
