Barcelona President Laporta Draws Political Lines Ahead Of Copa del Rey Final

Never one to shy away from a controversial opinion, the supremo has brought politics into the mix of a sporting debate, not for the first time...
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has once again combined sport with politics, as he commented on the upcoming Copa del Rey final between his side and Athletic Bilbao.

Speaking at the official dinner ahead of the match, Laporta said, "These are two teams that represent a very important social mass in their countries."

The use of the word 'countries', referring to the autonomous communities of Catalunya and the Basque Country, is unlikely to go unnoticed.

The Barca chief then talked up his team's chances of winning the cup, continuing, "We have 24 of these in our trophy cabinet, no-one can doubt that.

"The Copa del Rey is officially Barca's, and we expect that to continue tomorrow."

Finally, Laporta outlined his expectations for the occasion as a whole, stating, "The final will be an expression of the public spirit that each team embodies.

"It will be a festival."
