Manchester United Confirm They Are To Appeal Fabio Booking
Versatile Brazilian incorrectly cautioned by referee Chris Foy.
Sir Alex Ferguson noticed the blunder at the time, and it is a caution that the cup holders are to contest, as it was Rafael who should have been shown a yellow card - not Fabio.
Regarding their intentions to have the decision reversed, a Manchester United spokesperson confirmed that: "We are in discussions with the FA over this matter.
"We have pointed out that the referee made a mistake on the night and we obviously want it to be corrected.
"We will be asking for further advice on how best to rectify the situation."
United won the tie due to goals from Danny Welbeck and Michael Owen. They enter the draw for the quarter-finals, scheduled for Saturday, along with Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Blackburn Rovers, Portsmouth, and Aston Villa.
