Beckham's the best dressed England player, Defoe not the most delightful traveller...
The Kop favourite also believes that the Chelsea midfielder can match any player in the world with his guile and trickery.
"Joe Cole does some amazing stuff in training," Gerrard told Match of the Day magazine.
"He’s as good as Messi or Ronaldo on the ball, and he’ll give any player a run for their money when it comes to tricks."
Switching from matters on the pitch to those off it, the England vice-captain rated former skipper David Beckham as the most well dressed person among the Three Lions' players.
However, the Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder will play no part in the 2010 World Cup owing to injury, and 29-year-old Gerrard says it is "a shame" that the deadball specialist will not be able to make an appearance in the biggest competition in world football.
"Becks is always the best-dressed man around," he said. "No matter what he wears, he always seems to pull it off. It’s such a shame he’s injured."
Gerrard also believes that Jermain Defoe is not the best person to travel with to the summer event, and cited one reason why he thinks the striker could come close to missing out on the trip to the African continent.
"Most of the lads watch movies on the plane, but Jermain likes playing on his PSP – he loves Tiger Woods PGA Tour golf," said Gerrard. "If you make a bad shot, he lets the whole plane know."
He added: "We all travel together so there’s no chance of anyone missing the flight. But you’ll find 'Wrighty' [Shaun Wright-Phillips] and Defoe running for the plane – they’ll be clothes shopping in the airport."
