Young Arsenal midfielder Conor Henderson came through his initiation into the Gunners' first-team squad in one piece, even if his team's Premier League title bid was left in bits.

Henderson was included in Arsene Wenger's squad for the trip to Wigan, which ended in a 3-2 defeat, ending Arsenal's hopes of winning the league.

While he didn't get off the bench, he did have a real test on the coach to Lancashire - where the other first-teamers made him display his singing talents.

"The players all made me feel at home, I had to sing so that was a bit nerve-wracking! I did a song from Mario called 'Let Me Love You,' but it went well and everyone laughed so it was alright," Henderson told the Gunners' official website.

"It was the day before, so I found out on Saturday. Neil [Banfield, the Reserve-team manager] came and spoke to me and explained I would be in the squad. It was a nice surprise more than anything."

Henderson enjoyed the whole experience of match day with the first-team and is focusing now on working hard to make sure more opportunities come his way next season.

"Just to be included was massive for me, I was so happy to be going with the squad. If that happens again it's a bonus, if not then I'll just try and play my best in the youth team," he added.

"I know what I have to work on to improve my game, so I'll do that work and hopefully I'll be a better player next season."
