Everton Boss David Moyes And Manchester City's Roberto Mancini Play Down Touchline Clash
The managers clashed during the Toffees win on Wednesday
By Anthony Sciarrino
David Moyes and Roberto Mancini have downplayed their touchline confrontation during Everton’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City on Wednesday.
The managers clashed as the game entered stoppage time, when Moyes caught a ball that had flown out of bounds, and Mancini, thinking the Toffees boss was wasting time, tried to get the ball before the two were separated and sent to the stands.
The loss was a blow to Manchester City's hopes of finishing fourth this season.
Mancini calmed after the game, apologising to Moyes for the bust-up.
"I've spoken now with David and if I made a mistake I am sorry," he told Press Association Sport.
"I wanted to get the ball because there was another five minutes at the end.
"This can happen in a game but it is finished now.
"I was frustrated for the players because we played a good game and sometimes it can happen where scoring a goal is impossible."
Moyes spoke of the clash with Mancini, saying he was surprised when the Italian reacted the way he did.
"Next time I might just let the ball run through.
"I caught it because I was making a substitution, I would have thought it would actually have helped him.
"Maybe I held onto the ball a second or two longer than I should have done but I was trying to make a substitution.
"He showed his passion for his team and his club and I can accept that."
