Arsene Wenger Hopeful Roma Target William Gallas Will Stay With Arsenal
Defender is out of contract at the end of the season...
By Alex Dimond
The French international, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has already attracted the interest of Italian side Roma, but Wenger is confident that a deal will be reached that will keep the 32-year-old at the Emirates.
"I am not concerned," Wenger said on Thursday.
"He is under contract until June 30. We have not found an agreement yet. I [will] meet his agents again next Thursday and we will try to find a solution."
The manager has heard rumours linking Gallas with other clubs, and while he accepts the defender will talk with other sides he remains confident that he wants to remain with the Gunners.
"I do not know if he has spoken to Roma, but he is out of contract and can talk to whom he wants," Wenger said.
"William is speaking to us and our desire is to keep him here. I think he wants to stay here."
In the past Wenger has been reluctant to offer older players long-term deals, but the Frenchman refused to divulge details of the discussions.
"I would like to keep all that secret," he said. "I have to respect both parties and not to come out about the details of negotiations."
