Aston Villa Manager Martin O'Neill Aims To Silence Manchester United Boss Sir Alex Ferguson
When Fergie stops talking about Villa, then they'll be contenders, claims O'Neill.
By Alan Dawson
The Scotsman has oft referred to the Villans as potential "dark horses" in the Premier League title race. It is a tag that O'Neill initially welcomed, although he longs for the day when Ferguson will credit Aston Villa as genuine contenders for the crown.
"Sir Alex was very complimentary about our win," O'Neill is quoted by the Daily Star to have said. "It was a terrific boost of confidence for the players.
"Winning at Old Trafford has to be pretty much up there with our best performance of the season. You can be complimentary about a dark horse team. I think, on our day we can be very dangerous.
"If he stops talking about us, he might see us as real contenders," O'Neill said.
"We are capable of going and winning anywhere but we don’t have the depth in quality that United and Chelsea have."
