Cesc Fabregas Wants Arsenal To Display Bouncebackability At Chelsea

Captain hopes to beat the Blues after Gunners succumbed to Red Devil defeat...

Despite slumping to a 3-1 loss when hosting Manchester United on Sunday, trailing pace-setting Chelsea by five points, Arsenal midfielder Francesc Fabregas says the Gunners must bounce back when they travel to Stamford Bridge to take on the Blues this weekend.

Carlo Ancelotti's side also have a game in hand which, should they win, would extend the gap between themselves and Arsene Wenger's team to eight points. An Arsenal loss on Sunday, then, would widen the gap to 11 - the same deficit that the north Londoners made-up following the 3-0 loss to Chelsea in November.

"We have to bounce back straight away," the Arsenal captain said to the club's official website. "We know we have two massive games against Chelsea away and Liverpool at home so it is going to be difficult definitely. No-one said it is going to be easy," he added. "We just have to be strong and see what happens next week.

"Chelsea is never a good game to have even if you are nine points clear or nine points behind. They are a strong side, they have been playing together for a long time. They know what they do and know how to play.

"We have to beat them to stay in the title race," Fabregas said ominously.

"If you don't believe, you don't win things. We want to believe we are still there - I am always realistic and I am not going to lie to myself or to anyone. We know it is very difficult."

He continued: "Chelsea were better than us [in November] and Manchester United have been better than us [on Sunday]. It is something we have to think about to make sure it doesn't happen again.

"We started losing at Chelsea last season but we scored twice. That means in football it is so difficult to predict what is going to happen. So let's be positive and see if we can get a result there."

Fabregas, who has emerged as one of the most effective midfielders on the planet due to a 14-goal haul and 17-assist return this season, believes a collective mental strength is key. Especially as the club were top of the charts just a fortnight ago.

"I think we have to be positive. It is very easy to say we lost to Man United and let our heads go down. We have to be strong, be together more than ever and do our best until the end of the season.

"United had their chances to score even more goals and they also missed [them]. They were the better team and that’s it. They competed better than us.

"With all my respect, I really don’t care what people think about us. It's about what we believe up until the end of the season. People are not going to play for us and it is up to us to show what we can do.

"People watch the football and enjoy it but we must do our talking on the pitch."
