Ryan Giggs Refusing To Panic At Manchester United

Things set to improve this year, Welsh winger believes...

Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs does not think there is any need for anxiety about the current situation at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have stuttered a little in the Premier League recently, losing 3-0 at Fulham, and were dumped out of the FA Cup at the hands of old enemies Leeds United on Sunday.

There are still injury problems in the squad, though last month's crippling casualty list has shortened, but Giggs expects things to begin to pick up now.

"It has always been the same here, one defeat and it is a disaster. That is never going to change," he said, according to The Sun.

"But we don't get carried away with that, just the same as we wouldn't get carried away if we had won 10 on the bounce.

"It is up to us to work hard and get back to winning ways.

"We are still in a strong position in the league and we are still in the Champions League.

"The turn of the year is when we are notoriously at our best so hopefully that'll happen."

Meanwhile, Giggs was today awarded the freedom of his adopted hometown of Salford.

He received the honour at a special ceremony at Salford Quays, at which United legend Sir Bobby Charlton as well as manager Sir Alex Ferguson and chief executive David Gill were present.

The Welshman admitted that the award was something he would treasure.

"I've always said that I don't take any notice of footballing trophies or medals because I want to win more, but when you receive something like this it's something that you can sit back and enjoy and be proud of," he told Sky Sports News.

"Not just me, but my family and friends who've helped me along the way.

"And that's what I intend to do.

"I'm happy that the manager's here and David Gill and Sir Bobby are here. I'm really pleased that they could come."
