Shay Given has noted the success that Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger have enjoyed during their respective tenures at Manchester United and Arsenal, and is hoping Mark Hughes is allowed time to flourish in an equal manner.

Manchester City's ambitions have drastically altered in the past 18 months due to the influx of riches courtesy of the Abu Dhabi Group's investment, and Given believes managerial stability will be beneficial to the club's long-term aims.

"Look at the longest serving managers in the game like Ferguson and Wenger," the 33-year-old goalkeeper told the Daily Star. "They've had so much success because they were given time. These things don't just happen overnight.

"That's why it's so important our manager gets lots of time to get his ways across and make us gel as a team.

"Players like myself should be delighted that the boss brought us here because he could have signed anybody he wanted.

"We owe the manager a lot in this respect."
