Manchester United Ask Nemanja Vidic To Wait For Contract Renewal - Report

No imminent deal for Serbian...

EPL: Nemanja Vidic, Manchester United v Chelsea (PA)
Manchester United have asked Nemanja Vidic to wait until 2011 to proceed with negotiations over a new contract, according to The Sun.

The tabloid claims that this situation has enticed Barcelona to place the Serb under their scanner, as the defender has been linked with the Catalan giants in the past.

Due to debts amounting to around £43 million a year - and with the club believed to be £690m in the red - the top bosses at Old Trafford have reportedly frozen pay hikes for players unless their contract is set to expire within a year.

In previous years, players would have their contracts renegotiated with two years remaining, so as to minimise the risk of some of the Red Devils' bigger names talking to other clubs.

However, the aforementioned debt is said to have made the Glazer family believe that an early pay raise is no longer necessary.

Vidic currently has two years remaining on a contract worth £70,000 a week.
