We Pay Players To Focus On Arsenal, Not The World Cup - Arsene Wenger
Players must focus on club not country whilst under contract at Emirates…
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that his players must not allow thoughts of the World Cup to distract them from the job for which they are paid at the Emirates.
Wenger has been annoyed by journalists prefixing their questions to him abut his players with remarks about the importance of it being a 'World Cup season'.
Theo Walcott in particular has become the focus of much of the attention with his perceived vital importance to the England side.
But the Frenchman has forcefully insisted that the player's focus should be on their club form instead.
"The big season is with Arsenal, not at the World Cup," he told reporters at his press conference today.
"We do not pay players to go to the World Cup – we pay the players to do well for Arsenal.
"The first pride of a man is to do well for the guy who pays you in life, not to go to the World Cup."
