Tottenham Hotspur Boss Harry Redknapp Praises Five-Goal Hero Jermain Defoe
Spurs manager predicted Defoe goals...
Jermain Defoe put on an outstanding display for Tottenham Hotspur to ravage Wigan Athletic at White Hart Lane, according to his manager.
Harry Redknapp saw his troops record their biggest top-flight win with a 9-1 thrashing of a sorry Wigan side in north London this afternoon.
Goals from Peter Crouch, Defoe, Aaron Lennon, Niko Kranjcar and David Bentley gave Spurs victory in a very one-sided game.
Defoe scored five goals in total, which sees him join Premier League legends Alan Shearer and Andy Cole as players to have scored five times in one game, and included a seven-minute hat-trick at the beginning of the second half.
"For Jermain to get five goals was an outstanding performance. Yesterday in training he looked so sharp and I felt if he could carry that into the game he would be a real handful," said Redknapp.
The Spurs manager was also quick to praise the contribution of Aaron Lennon who got three assists and one goal in the victory, with Redknapp stating the winger is a "fantastic talent" who is on top form.
