Chelsea may have defeated Manchester United by a goal to nil in their last Premier League encounter, but Michael Owen believes it is Sir Alex Ferguson's men who deserved to leave Stamford Bridge with maximum points.

The striker, bought on a free transfer in the summer following the expiration of his Newcastle United contract, also stated that the reigning Premier League champions don't have to prove anything to anyone.

"We don’t have that desperate desire to get out there again and prove anything to anyone," Owen informed the United Review.

"When we lost at Liverpool it was a different story – we didn’t perform well at Anfield – but there was no way we deserved to lose at Chelsea," he added.

"We walked away with our heads held high. There were plenty of positives to take out of that performance."

Owen also remarked that while he was playing for boyhood club Liverpool he never imagined he would one day wear United colours.

"Ten years ago I wouldn’t have dared dream I would one day play for United, so it’s a nice surprise," he said.

"I’ve been very fortunate to end up here and there’s no better feeling than playing, scoring, winning and hearing the fans sing your name."
