Mikael Silvestre Expects Sunderland To Test Arsenal

Frenchman predicts Black Cats will be unwelcoming hosts...

Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre is not expecting an easy game when the Gunners travel to Sunderland at the weekend.

Steve Bruce's Wearsiders have been in good form at the Stadium of Light and triumphed over Liverpool there last month in the infamous 'beach ball goal' game.

"They are doing really well and I think Steve Bruce made a fantastic job over there," Silvestre told his club's official website.

"They have a good crowd too and it is a good test for us. It is going to be after an international break so it won't be easy.

"The atmosphere is going to be really hot and hard for us so we have to make sure we don't concede a goal, control the game, and then we will find a way to score.

"Sunderland are proof that the Premier League is more competitive now. That's why it is one of the most attractive leagues in the world.

"You don't see much of a difference between the teams who are first, second and third in the league and the ones that are 10th, 11th or 12th."

Silvestre also believes that Chelsea are the team to keep an eye on in this season's title race.

"We need to make sure we win the important games, like the ones we lost against Manchester United and Manchester City," he added.

“I think Chelsea is going to be a big test for us. It could be a decider for the league title this season.

"I think this season they are [the biggest threat], as well as United. I think we are in a good position so the players are well aware of what was missing last season and everybody is focused on giving 100 per cent for the rest of the season.

"I’m sure we’ll grab something although I’m not sure what. The Premier League? Why not."
