Arsenal Await Kieran Gibbs Ankle Injury Verdict - Report

Youngster to have precautionary x-ray...

CL: Kieran Gibbs, Arsenal v Manchester United (PA)
Arsenal awaits news on an ankle injury sustained by full-back Kieran Gibbs in the England Under-21’s goalless draw against Lithuania on Tuesday.

The youngster was hauled off after 21 minutes of the European Championship qualifier in Vilnius and is having an x-ray to assess possible damage.

A spokesman for the FA told BBC Sport that the injury does not appear to be serious, which will come as a huge relief to Arsenal fans after the news that Dutch striker Robin van Persie has been ruled out for six weeks with an ankle injury of his own.

Gibbs has proved to be an able deputy for fellow left-back Gael Clichy this season, and many have tipped the 20-year-old to gain full international recognition in the near future.
