The FA have rejected Liverpool's appeal against the red card handed to Swiss defender Philipp Degen in Saturday's defeat to Fulham.

A statement on the FA's official website reads: "At a Regulatory Commission hearing today, a claim for wrongful dismissal by Liverpool defender Philipp Degen was rejected."

The player was sent off for serious foul play towards the end of the game on Saturday. His suspension will now begin immediately.

The Regulatory Commission also dealt with two cases of mistaken identity at the hearing. Aston Villa midfielder Stephen Warnock's yellow card against Everton was transferred to Stilyan Petrov.
