Report: Middlesbrough Target Manchester United Striker Federico Macheda On Loan

Young Italian to be farmed out...

New Middlesbrough manager Gordon Strachan is reportedly looking to dip straight into the transfer market - and sign Manchester United starlet Federico Macheda on loan.

Strachan is keen to sign a striker on loan after Jeremie Aliadiere was ruled out for six weeks due to an ankle injury, and The Daily Mail reports that top of his list is the 18-year-old Italian forward.

Macheda has seen his first-team chances limited to a couple of appearances in the League Cup and warming the bench on occasion in the Premier League.

But it remains to be seen whether Sir Alex Ferguson will be willing to loan the youngster out given the lack of striking cover for Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen.

Also reportedly on Strachan's list are Birmingham City misfit Kevin Phillips and Wolverhampton Wanderers' Chris Iwelumo.
