Arsenal Were Interested In Signing Liverpool's Alberto Aquilani - Arsene Wenger
Had it not been for his injury, Aquilani may have been a Gunner...
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that he pondered about signing Alberto Aquilani from Roma before Liverpool snapped up the midfielder.
'The Professor' maintained that the injury-prone nature of the former Giallorossi player came in the way of a potential interest from the north London club.
"Yes I know him [Aquilani] well," Wenger told the club's official website.
"He played against us in the Champions League last year and came off the bench in Rome. He is a talented player but has been troubled a lot by injuries.
"We followed him for one or two years but he did not play a lot last year so he got a little bit out of sight for us and we lost our interest in him."
Aquilani is set to make his debut for the Reds against Arsenal in the League Cup at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.
