Manchester United's Wayne Rooney Remains Injury Doubt To Face Liverpool - Report
Former Evertonian may be ruled out of facing old foe...
Regional rivals Manchester United and Liverpool square off at Anfield on Sunday lunchtime, but both will be fielding a sub-par side as - according to a report in The Express - Sir Alex Ferguson and Rafael Benitez will be ruing the respective injuries to a number of their side's stars.
Stocky striker Wayne Rooney, formerly of Everton, is unlikely to start due to his inability to recover sufficiently from a calf injury sustained while on international duty with England.
Ferguson, though, could welcome veteran midfielder Ryan Giggs back to the first team after the Welshman suffered a knock during last weekend's 2-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers. Giggs has been in exemplary form this season - his creativity is underlined with the five assists he has supplied in the Premier League.
Darren Fletcher may be subject to a late fitness test in order to assess his availability, while Park Ji Sung is a certainty to miss out on the crucial clash.
Liverpool manager Benitez, meanwhile, will wait until the eleventh hour in order to gauge whether or not influential attacker Steven Gerrard, prolific striker Fernando Torres, and dynamic full-back Glen Johnson will be fit.
Albert Riera, though, will be sidelined due to his hamstring problem, and Alberto Aquilani - who featured for the Reds' reserve side midweek - will not be risked as he continues his rehabilitation.
