Investment company F6 has confirmed that talks to invest in Liverpool are now "on hold" despite recent talks with American owner George Gillett.

Speculation concerning the Saudi firm buying a stake in the Merseyside club have intensified in recent weeks after reported talks between Prince Faisal bin Fahad bin Abdullah Al-Saud and Gillett.

Recent reports had seemed to suggest that a deal for the Prince to buy a stake were close to being concluded, but according to Gassim Hamidaddin, F6’s managing director, that is not now the case.

"The purchase of a stake in Liverpool has not been discussed throughout Gillett's visit, not for even five minutes," Hamidaddin told Reuters UK.

"The discussions are now on hold. The idea of buying a stake in Liverpool was put on the table in September but since then nothing happened."

The news is unlikely to impress Liverpool fans who suffered their fourth Premier League defeat of the season this afternoon going down 1-0 to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
