Ashley Young is looking to become one of the club's prominent players following the departure of former club captain Gareth Barry to Manchester City and solid centre-back Martin Laursen to an injury-enforced retirement by doing all he can in the final third.

The Young Player of the Year winner, 23, continued to prove a productive outlet on the left flank in the past season, following the trend set by the campaign before, in which only Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas supplied more assists than the England-hopeful.

Young today informed the club's official website that he aims to better his nine-goal tally from the last campaign.

"It would be brilliant to get into double figures but as long as I'm doing my job and creating chances for others, I'm happy," Young explained.

"Obviously if I'm scoring goals it's even better, but I don't set myself any targets.

"Whether I'm on the right, left behind the front two or up front, it doesn't really bother me as long as I'm doing well for the team."
