Goal.com caught up with CEO of PIFA Sports, Nirvan Shah for an interview as his team notched up a win in their very first game against the Simla Youngs..The second division of the I-League Group B kicked off in Indore on Saturday and it was a bright start for PIFA Sports team as they beat the Simla Youngs 3-2 to kick start their campaign with a bang. Goal.com caught up with the CEO of PIFA, Nirvan Shah as he spoke about the club's long term goals and the transition they were going through.
PIFA has yet again set it sights on qualifying for the I-League and the team knows the journey would not be an easy one. The Mumbai based outfit have previously tried qualifying for the top division league but had fallen short on both attempts and hope to be 'third time lucky'.
"It will be a dream for us to qualify. We have worked hard and are working towards achieving this goal," said Shah.
The only possible hinderence to the club's progress is the lack of funds being pumped in to compete with the rest of the big guns. Shah acknowledged the fact as he commented, "Everything is okay and all we need now is a major sponsor".
"The cancellation of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) Elite Division League has been a huge set-back," he opined as the Mumbai based outfit seem significantly underprepared and short of match practice.
The second division of the I-League is an unknown commodity to most and one wonders the level of competition in the country's second best league.
"The level of competition in the second division is very high. The teams have good budgets. Teams like Mohammadan Sporting, Josco FC and the Royal Wahingdoh have substancial budgets. We have also roped in 'A' licensed coach in Farukh Ahmad to help the team perform better," Shah mentioned.
"The AIFF is trying its best to help, but the lack of funds are a problem. The grounds we play at are of very average quality," he opined.
On being asked on what his dreams for his club would be, "Qualifying for the I-League first and foremost, and then finishing in the top two places of the league standings to make it to the AFC Cup," said a confident Nirvan Shah who hopes one day his team will realise their dream of being one of India's elite.
