The 36-year-old defended Boima Karpeh's reaction of kicking the bottle after the striker was substituted in the 83rd minute...
Sporting Clube de Goa ended the year in the second spot on the I-League standings as they continued their winning spree this month by registering a 1-0 against United Sports Club, on Saturday. Rojen Singh's early goal was enough to win full points for Oscar Bruzon's side.
The Spaniard coach admitted that the Kolkata outfit were a tough side to beat but claimed that his team controlled the game.
"The match was very tough. We started the match with a lot of speed, rhythm, intensity and controlling, but after the goal we made some mistakes, especially the distance between my stoppers and the midfield line,” he said.
"They (United SC) were making very good use of that by putting Ranti [Martins] behind my stoppers and stretching my team a lot. They were using two or three players in that gap, but it's very good that my team read that very well. I think in the second half, we had a very slow rhythm but again we were controlling the game and in the counter-attack we could have scored another goal."
Bruzon was satisfied with the fact that winner came from a winger as he wants the rest of his squad to share the goal scoring responsibilities.
"Boima [Karpeh] is working well. Today one goal came from a winger, so I'm very happy. This is the first goal that Rojen [Singh] has scored. I'm asking the wingers to score more goals because if you see the goals of our team are scored by Boima (Karpeh) and [Ogba] Kalu Nnnana.
"I told Rowllin [Borges] and my other wingers to come inside and finish. In the opening 10 minutes it was perfect and then of course we were not pressing much more. We were more compact and slowly doing some counter attacks. I'm very happy with the game, except for the last 20 minutes of the first half."
Asked about Sporting's objectives in the upcoming Federation Cup next year, the coach replied, "We are an I-League team. I don't want to set the objectives of winning (the Federation Cup) because that is something that I think we need some more steps to achieve. Our team is working not to lose against anyone. Scoring and winning is a different thing. It's very difficult for any team in India to beat us, but I'm not going to talk about that now as we have four wins in a row, so it's a big win for us."
Karpeh expressed his frustration on being substituted in the 83rd minute by kicking a bottle near the bench, but Bruzon chose to look at the bright side.
"That is good. Let's put it in a positive way that he was working very well. He was enjoying the game and was fighting and winning the battle. However I wanted Victorino [Fernandes] to finish the attack. He (Victorino) didn't do it, but I'm happy that Karpeh is upset with the change. That means that he has a competitive mind and he wants to help the team," Bruzon concluded.
