The British coach now has set his sights on a successful I-League campaign after leading them to victory in the Federation Cup..
Trevor Morgan has set his sights on the I-League title as he aims to lead East Bengal to be the numero uno side in the country.
East Bengal have come close to winning the elusive league title twice in the past two seasons with Salgaocar FC and Dempo SC piping them on both occasions.
“Being runners-up in I-League in back-to-back seasons should not be described as failure. A team, which was facing relegation not long back, and is now challenging for the top spot, means we are improving. We are now among the top 2-3 teams and our aim is to become number 1", Morgan told The Times of India.
The Red and Gold begin their I-League campaign with an away game against Sporting Clube de Goa whom they faced earlier in the Federation Cup as well.
"In our last two I-League campaigns, we managed to garner 112 points out of a possible 156 from 52 matches. Clearly, it was not enough. We aim to win as many matches as possible in the upcoming edition", said the 56-year-old.
Morgan also praised his side's character and the ability to perform under pressure and maintained that such traits would be vital in overcoming their next challenge
“More than winning the trophy here, our biggest achievement from this Federation Cup tournament is that we have shown character and conviction to perform under pressure. We need to show the same in overcoming our next challenge," he said.
