The Dempo midfielder is in a bullish mood ahead of their semi-final meeting with Salgaocar FC at Siliguri...

Dempo midfielder Godwin Franco is confident of securing a favourable result against Goan rivals Salgaocar in the second semi-final of the Federation Cup 2012. The winner will face East Bengal in the final after they eked out a 1-0 victory over Churchill Brothers to book a berth in the final.

Franco believes that his side can go past the Salgaocar challenge if things work out for them as planned and set up a final date with the Red and Gold brigade.

“It’s been a competitive week of football at the Federation Cup and Dempos have played hard to make it to the semi-finals,” Franco told The Navhind Times.

“The entire team is confident of a favourable result, and if everything unfolds as per plan we should be in the finals. However, it will be a tough game as we expect Salgaocar to come hard at us," he added.

Franco praised teamwork as a prime cause for Dempo's success in the tournament, which they have won only in 2004, and was happy with his personal performance.

"All I want is to see my team qualifying and winning the Federation Cup, which is a very prestigious event in the AIFF calendar,” said the former Pune FC medio.

When probed about the team's morale after they shifted base from Jamshedpur to Siliguri for the knock-out phases, Godwin remained optimistic and told that the team was raring to play the semi-finals.

“The spirits are high within the team and everybody is raring to go against Salgaocar.”
