Federation Cup: Injured East Bengal Striker Robin Singh Ruled Out Of Opener And Likely To Miss Out Against Pune FC Also

The East Bengal coach confirmed on Friday that injured striker Robin Singh is definitely out of his side’s Federation Cup opener and remains a doubt for their second game also.
21-year-old striker Robin Singh, who twisted his ankle in training on Wednesday, could be ruled out of both of East Bengal’s first two games in the Federation Cup.

Coach Trevor James Morgan confirmed about the unavailability of the former TFA cadet against Moahammedan Sporting and stated that the youngster is likely to be out of Monday’s clash against Pune FC also.

“He is out of first game and could be out for the second as well. We will have to wait and see,” the Englishman told the reporters after Friday’s practice session.

Morgan is refusing to tag his team as the favourites for the Federation Cup and is only focusing on making a good start to the new season.

“It won’t be appropriate to say we are the favourites. It’s the start of the new season and we need to settle down.”

The 55-year-old however stated that his side are much better prepared for this year’s Federation Cup as compared to last, when they had to play a lot of matches in the Kolkata League before taking part in the premier cup competition in India.

“I expect my team to perform a lot better this time because last year we were a little exhausted going into the Fed Cup as we had already played a lot of games in the Kolkata League.

“This time we have had a very intense pre-season and are fresh physically for the tournament.”

East Bengal’s opener against local rivals Mohammedan kicks-off at 7pm later this Saturday while Dempo face Pune FC in the earlier game of Group C from 4pm.
