Federation Cup: It's Going To Be Very Tough - Lajong Secretary Larsing Sawyan
The club's General Secretary though, believes that his strikers will seal the deal...
On how he felt a day before Lajong's biggest football game till date, Sawyan said, "I'm quite excited, of course, as the club will be part of such a big footballing occasion, but I also know that a tough task awaits us.
"We have three players out due to suspension, and along with that, we also have an injury to Aibor Khongjee, so we will have to cope without them."
Not many gave Lajong a chance coming into the tournament, but they topped Group D, which had teams like Pune FC, Dempo, and Air India, following which they stunned I-League champions Churchill Brothers in the semi final.
"I think we were exceptional against Dempo and Churchill, who are both big teams, and I'm really happy we could win those games and make it to the final", he added.
There have been a few players who have stood out in the Lajong team, and when asked whom his picks were, Sawyan answered, "I think Tuboi, Anil, Daniel and Wailad have been very good. Also, our midfield machine, Samson, has been doing a lot of hard work, which goes unnoticed.
"Niwan too has a high work-rate, Boithang too, so I could just go on naming players. It's the team that has done so well as a unit, which is why we're here."
Predictions have counted for very little in the Indian domestic season so far, but still, on being asked for one, Sawyan gave us his gut feeling about the game.
"My gut feeling is that my strikers will see us through on the day. Because of the suspensions, their role becomes even more important, and I feel they will do the job for us", he concluded.
